Hola, I am Ms. Ray! Welcome to 7th and 8th grade Spanish! I am so excited to be at Valley Springs. I was born and raised in Asheville , and I come from a diverse family which I adore so much!  I received my education from Carson Newman- University with my degree in Spanish and a minor in Psychology. After I graduated, I was a Spanish Interpreter for some years working with the Spanish speaking community. Little after, I started my post- baccalaureate/graduate studies at Mars Hill University in Spanish Education. I wanted to become a teacher after years of interpreting because I have worked with children for a long time. I have a passion for the youth and it has always been a second nature. As an older sibling, one has the responsibility of taking care of others. I started working in Youth Development when I was in high-school allowing me to have over 15 years of experience working with children of all ages. I then branched out and gained some experience in the pre-school setting, then transitioned to a teacher assistant for several years in order to further my knowledge of educating students. Though my experience prior has mostly been with elementary students , I am excited to teach middle school and create those same relationships with the students. It is exciting to learn a new language and my goal for students is to learn communication as well as cultural competency. My approach is to give students a realistic experience with the language and culture in action. I want students taking away more knowledge of the language, more passion to travel and explore new cultures, and embracing diversity that provides connections to the world and in their future careers.
