School Improvement Teams are required
by North Carolina General Statute to develop School Improvement Plans.
The General Assembly of North Carolina
views parental involvement as a critical component of school success and
positive student achievement. North
Carolina G.S. requires that parents, along with teachers, administrators, and
non-instructional personnel, have a substantial role in developing school
improvement plans to increase student achievement (§
115C-105.27).
Buncombe County Schools (BCS) encourages
and endorses shared decision making, evidenced by its Purpose, Direction, and
Belief statements. Shared decision
making is also evident in the Purpose, Direction, and Belief statements for
Valley Springs Middle School.
Each school within Buncombe County
Schools is required to write a new School Improvement Plan (SIP) every two
years.
The new plan for Valley Springs Middle
School is representative
of the 2018-2019 and 2019-2020 school years.
When the VSMS School Improvement Team (SIT) makes changes and/or
updates the SIP, an updated version of the plan will be posted.
SIT meetings are held the first Monday of each month at 3:15 in
the Office Conference Room unless otherwise stated.
All meetings are open
to the public as required by law.
