Welcome to 8th Grade Language Arts!

McMahan Team
2017-2018

This year we will study a wealth of topics that will help students learn more about themselves and the world around them. Our areas of study will include identity, unexpected twists of life, compassion, tolerance, motivation, and inspiration. We will explore these areas through daily reading, writing, speaking, and listening activities.

My goal for the year is to challenge students to follow the R.A.M.S. standards. This asks them to be responsible, aim to achieve, be mindful, and strive for success. In my classroom, students will demonstrate these tasks by taking personal responsibility for their words and actions and work hard to reach their full potential.

As the 8th graders prepare for their transition to high school, they will face many expectations and obstacles. It is the task of parents, guardians, and teachers to guide and nurture these students. My aim as a teacher is to facilitate communication and support throughout the school year.

8th Grade English/Language Arts Teacher

This is my fourth year teaching at Valley Springs. Teaching is my passion, and I love being part of the Ram community! I am originally from St. Louis, Missouri, but I'm proud to call Asheville my home. I moved to the area to attend Warren Wilson College where I received my B.A. in English and Creative Writing. After graduating from Warren Wilson College, I went on to receive my teaching license in 6-9 Language Arts and 9-12 English from The University of North Carolina Asheville. I feel very fortunate to teach at Valley Springs, and I look forward to an amazing school year!
