Dear Parent(s) or Guardian(s),

I would like to begin by introducing myself and telling you a little bit about who I am as well as my hopes for the upcoming course with your son or daughter.  I am originally from New Smyrna Beach, Florida where I spent most of my life. After High School I moved up to Western North Carolina to attend Brevard College where I majored in History & Education and ran Cross Country and Track. For the last four years my wife and I have been teaching in New Smyrna Beach, Florida. We recently relocated to the great state of North Carolina and are very excited to continue our teaching adventure in Buncombe County.  Some of my hobbies include running, camping, hiking, surfing, and exploring with my golden retriever.

This school year I am teaching North Carolina History with the guidance and support of an enthusiastic Valley Springs Middle School 8th grade team.  I believe that teaching is one of the most important and influential professions in the world.  Teaching is a passion that is fostered deeply within me, as I follow the footsteps of my parents and grandparents into the world of education.  Anyone can teach a person to memorize and remember but it is my most sincere goal to teach in a way that enables students to understand, apply, and critically think about the world around them; past, present, and future.

I am so thankful to be able to share in this enriching experience with you and your son or daughter as well as the amazing faculty and staff of Valley Springs Middle School.

“The objective is to teach the students to see the world; to understand what they see and enjoy what they understand.” – Aldo Leopold

Sincerely,

Mr. Tager
