Everyone has a story to tell about their life experiences. Each of those stories are filled with a variety of emotions. Sometimes it can be important to tell your story so others have a better understanding about you. Students at Valley Springs Middle School were able to tell their story to teachers and fellow students. With the help of technology they created a video that tells about the countries they came from, and their own cultures.
“We wanted to give this group of students the opportunity to share their stories with their teachers,” said ESL teacher Natalie Romanello. “English is their second language so it can be difficult to communicate with others. They are able to tell us more about themselves, which helps us to understand them more as well as meet their needs better.”
Getting to know her students more is a top priority for Ms. Romanello. She says it’s a need among this group of students as they all have different backgrounds of where they came from. Students added text and photos to their videos, which they then shared with the class and other teachers.
“I desperately want to know more about each of my students,” she said. “I don’t want to ask the wrong questions. This activity opens the door to endless possibilities for helping our students succeed.”
